Kodak launched its photography focused smartphone “Kodak EKTRA” in India

On Monday, Kodak launched its photography-led smartphone EKTRA in India.

It is going to be available to buy from July 18, the EKTRA smartphone is already available in the US and Europe and is tuned for the best-image quality and media management.

Kodak EKTRA is priced at Rs. 19,900, and will be sold exclusively via Flipkart.

Peter Stephens, CEO Bullitt Group, a Kodak licensee for mobile devices, said on launch:

“The KODAK EKTRA Smartphone is all about capturing the moment, telling a story and revelling the experience of photography. Our latest features and performance adjustments include RAW support, all of which will help drive our customers’ creativity,”

It’s all about the camera

The smartphone has 21MP fast-focus camera sensor with f2.0 aperture and 13MP front-facing camera with Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) and f2.2 aperture.

The custom-built camera app is controlled by an intuitive haptic touch, SLR-style ‘Scene Selection Dial’ where adjustments are made in real time via a range of settings, including HDR, landscape, portrait, macro, sport, night-time and panorama.

The camera blends high-quality low-light photography, utilising “ARCSOFT Night Shot” technology combined with a Kodak-certified lens coating that enables more light to reach the sensor and reduces the ISO noise.

The EKTRA includes editing software from SNAPSEED. The handset also comes bundled with the Super 8 video recording app capable of reproducing Kodak’s Super 8 film stocks.

“Kodak carries a strong brand legacy in India, and with EKTRA, we aim to enhance the skills and experience of Indian photo-enthusiasts,” says Kodak.

Kodak Ektra sports a 5-inch LCD display and is powered by deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz. Paired with 3GB of RAM and it has 32GB of internal storage which can be further expanded via microSD card.

In terms of software it runs on slightly older Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The smartphone is backed up by a 3000mAh battery. and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

The smartphone also features all standard features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and so on. Plus from the back the smartphone feels very premium, and the camera does looks and works great. If you love taking images go grab it, it is not going to disappoint you at this price.

In addition to the launch of EKTRA smartphone, Kodak Brand Licensee Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd. (SPPL) has announced the launch of a Bluetooth speaker called Kodak TV Speaker. The 10W speaker comes with Bluetooth 4.0 + EDR connectivity and a range of up to 10 meters. The company claims a battery life of over 5 hours which is all great. It is also available exclusively via Flipkart priced at just Rs. 3,290.
